The chain stitch is a popular stitch that can be used in many ways. For example, you can make straight or curved lines, or it can be used to fill in shapes.
How to Do a Chain Stitch:
- Bring your needle up from the back of your fabric.
- Bring your needle back down near to where you brought your needle up. This will make a loop.
- Bring your needle back up at the top of your loop. Gently pull your loop to your desired size.
- Bring your needle back down at the top of the same loop. This will anchor your previous loop and form the next loop. Repeat this step for all remaining loops.
- Once your chain is complete, make a small stitch at the top of your last loop to anchor it in place.
Tips:
- To make a wide chain stitch, keep your first two stitches wide apart. To make it thinner, bring your needle back down either right at or right next to your first stitch.
- Use your other hand to help pull your loops into place if needed.
- To make a curved line, make the inside stitch of the curve shorter than the outside.
