The fly stitch is similar to the lazy daisy stitch, but this one will resemble a “Y” or a “V”. These can used be as a single decorative stitch or to make a line. This stitch is popular to use for branches, leaves, flower stems, and even small birds.
How to Do the Fly Stitch:
- Bring your needle up from the back to the front of your fabric.
- Bring your needle back down on the other side, to make a “U”.
- Then bring your needle back up at the bottom of this “U”. Gently pull the thread of your “U” stitch. If you pull it tight, it will look like a “V”, if left loose, it will look like a “U”.
- Bring your needle back down over this thread to anchor your stitch. A short anchor stitch will keep this stitch looking like a “U” or a “V”. A longer anchor stitch will make it look like a “Y”.
Tips:
- If your want to make your stitches appear attached in a line, start your next “U” stitch close to your previous anchor stitch. Another option is to attach them at the edges of your “Y’s” to form a horizontal line.
- Change up the width and closeness of your stitches to suit your design needs!
