The lazy daisy is also known as a detached chain stitch. This is because you’re making a single part of a “chain”. The lazy daisy is a very popular stitch to use to make flowers and small leaves.
How to Do a Lazy Daisy (or Detached Chain Stitch):
- Bring your needle up from the back of your fabric.
- Bring your needle back down on the opposite side of your petal, to make a loop. Don’t pull your thread tight, yet.
- Bring your needle back up at the top of your loop. Gently pull your thread to get your loop into place. The tighter you pull your thread, the more “pointy” your petal will be.
- Make a small stitch over your thread loop. This stitch will make an anchor over this loop.
- You have made your first petal! Now, repeat these steps to complete the rest of your flower.
Tips:
- Use a pencil or a vanishing ink pen to draw your flower before stitching. This will help you with the placement of your petals.
- You can make wide or narrow petals by changing the distance between the two sides of your loop.
