The seed stitch is very similar to a running stitch. The biggest difference between the two is that these are done at random. While this stitch seems quite simple, it’s in fact a versatile stitch! You can use this stitch to fill in a shape, shade in an area, or add texture to your design.
How to Do a Seed Stitch:
- Bring your needle up from the back to the front of your fabric.
- Bring your needle back down again, making your first stitch.
- Make another stitch nearby, but going in a different direction.
- Repeat step 3, and make your stitches go in all directions until your space is filled!
Tips:
- Don’t pull your thread too tight, as this can pucker up your fabric.
- Stitch by “stabbing” up and down. This will help keep your stitches even.
- You can also use this stitch paired with a satin stitch to make a shape have a padded look. First, fill in the shape with random seed stitches, then you will use a satin stitch over it.
